Life learning… on the tip of your tongue!
Isn’t it great when you figure out a way to combine hobbies and interests? There’s no better feeling than when two of your pastimes emerge to have a whole lot more in common than you first anticipated! For me, this revelation occurred when I realised how I could combine cooking and language learning to their scrumptious best! Always interested in foreign languages and international cuisine, I guess you could say that I am completely devoted to the idea of foreign tongues… that is, the languages that they speak and the taste sensations they enjoy!
It was during a year of study abroad when I had the realisation that the two could be combined. I was spending six months at a French course France and then a further six months at a French course Switzerland. I had been struggling with how to put my French into practical use outside of the lessons but then it came in the form of a delicious French chocolate cake recipe, scribbled down for me in French. Time to bite the bullet, so to speak, and put my understanding of French into practice!
So with 200g of cooking chocolate broken into pieces melted with 125g of butter in a pan, 150g of sugar added when the liquid was removed from the flame, with 3 tablespoons of flour and 4 egg yolks mixed one-by-one I started to feel confident that maybe my French comprehension wasn’t so bad after all. I whisked the egg whites separately and gently combined the ingredients, smiling to myself that perhaps I finally could hold my head high in France, and after the magic came together after 10 minutes in a 150°C oven, I was assured that my days bumbling through with spoken French were over!
It’s got me inspired, I’m sure there’s plenty of opportunity for a French course Canada as well as an English course Canada, or why not perfect my pasta with an Italian course Italy or treat myself to a lesson in tapas with a Spanish course Spain. There’s a world of possibility out there!
